Code on the Road is now accepting registrations from women and girls for its two-day workshop, We Speak in Code: Introduction to the Principles of Coding.

Deadline for registrations is midnight on WEDNESDAY 16h FEBRUARY 2022. The workshop will be held on 18th and 19th February 2022 and will be taught via Zoom in English and Arabic from 3pm to 7pm (Amman time). The workshop is free but spaces are limited to a maximum of 20 students. 

 

THE WHO, WHAT AND WHERE

What is the Introduction to the Principles of Coding Workshop? 
If you are a woman and have no knowledge of coding and are eager to know more, then this workshop is perfect for you. Our two-day online workshop assumes no knowledge in computer programming and will introduce you to the basic concepts and techniques of developing programs for problem solving. The workshop will teach you the fundamentals of coding, how to apply it for different professional needs, and also provide you with basic understanding of how various coding languages work to give your the understanding you need to decide if becoming a software developer is a career for you!
 
What is the Course Syllabus?
Talented software developers are in high demand in the global and local labor market. Learning software engineering opens a work of professional opportunities both in firms and as a freelancer. Furthermore, software engineers who focus on learning the right programming languages as well as soft skill sets can take their career in a range of directions. This workshop aims to introduce women and girls to this exciting world of coding and how it can be the start of a fulfilling and rewarding career.
 
The workshop will cover the following topics:
 
• What is a software developer?
What skills do you need to become a software developer?
• Why become a program developer? Everything you need to know about the programmer role, how it is changing, and job opportunities. 
Basic principles of coding
What are the different programming languages software developers use?
How do you choose the best language for you?
What are the soft skill sets you need to give you an edge?
 
Who will teach the workshop?
The workshop will be taught by Shatha Jayyousi. Shatha is a leading Jordanian tech mentor and leader of the Jordanian chapter of “Arab Women in Computing”. She is VP of the US State Department’s Jordanian Alumni Association and head of Customer Management Solutions at Orange Jordan. Shatha has led software development and implementations in a variety of industries such as insurance, finance, medicine and telecom. She was a mentor in the Queen Rania National Entrepreneurship Competition and is on the advisory board of the US State Dept’s “SheCap” project, and teaching member of Code on the Road (COR).
 
Can anyone register?
If you’re a human and belong to the female sex, and have access to a computer, you can register. The workshop is open to all women and girls in Greece and Jordan who wish to learn the principles of coding.
 
Where will the sessions take place? 
The workshop is a 2-day intensive programme (4 hours per day)—all delivered online via the Zoom platform. The workshop will be held on 18th and 19th February 2022 from 3pm to 7pm (Amman time).
 
What language will the course be taught?
The workshop will be taught in English and Arabic.
 
What do you need? 
A computer and a Carpe Diem attitude!
 
What happens after? 
At the completion of this workshop, students will receive a certificate of achievement and will be introduced to mentoring networks to assist them in advancing in learning coding.
